Second International Conference on Economy and Business - MICEB 2025 officially opened

As part of the Second MICEB International Conference, Shaping Sustainable Economies - The Role of EU Management, the 65th anniversary of the Faculty of Economics in Podgorica was marked. The conference was opened by the dean of the Faculty of Economics, prof. Dr. Mijat Jocović, President of the Executive Board of Alta Bank Una Sikimić and President of Montenegro Jakov Milatović

The Dean said that the Faculty of Economics should not be seen only as an organizational unit of the University of Montenegro, but as one of the key institutions for the development of the country.

"Since its establishment in 1960, the Faculty of Economics has changed in accordance with the times, accepting change as the only constant of development," said Jocović.

He reminded that more than 12,000 students passed through this higher education institution, many of whom occupied the most responsible positions in the economy and state institutions.

"For years, the faculty has wisely recognized social and economic trends, reformed curricula, initiated scientific research and developed international cooperation. Today's conference is the result of such consideration," he said.

The MICEB conference brought together numerous domestic and international participants, including representatives of renowned academic and professional institutions in the field of economics and management. Special attention is paid to the role of the European Union in shaping sustainable economies.

"We believe that Montenegro belongs to the European Union - spiritually, historically, juridically-economically and value-wise. That is why it is important to build inclusive and open institutions along the way, and to follow the membership strategy with well-thought-out sustainable development policies," Jocović stressed.

He emphasized the importance of knowledge popularization and the connection between the scientific research community, policy makers and the economy, as a key mechanism for building a modern and sustainable society.

"Ours is a small country - let's not betray it. This conference is a symbolic step towards that goal," said the dean of the Faculty of Economics, concluding his address with words of gratitude to all partners and sponsors who supported the organization of this important event," said Jocović.

Una Sikimić: Sustainable financial institutions are crucial for the stability and development of the region

The President of the Executive Board of Alta Bank, Una Sikimić, said at the conference dedicated to institutional economy that strong, transparent and modern financial institutions are the basis of long-term stability and sustainable development, and that Montenegro is making significant progress on this path.

Milatović: Essential reforms of the judiciary, public administration and regulatory bodies are necessary

The President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatović, said that reforms of the judiciary, public administration and regulatory bodies are necessary, and that they must be not only technical, but also essential, resistant to any political and party pressure.

The President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatović, said that sustainable economic development in the modern world has become an imperative, not a matter of choice, and that without strong and functional institutions, a stable and successful state cannot be built. He stated this at the commemoration of the 65th anniversary of the Faculty of Economics in Podgorica, emphasizing the importance of institutional economics and the process of accession to the European Union.

It has three key messages: Institutions are more than resources, Economic development without institutional reforms is a short-term illusion, and The decisive moment is now, not tomorrow.

"Wealth does not build strong institutions, but strong institutions create wealth," said Milatović.

He emphasized that courts that guarantee security, a state administration that functions in the interest of all citizens, and market conditions that are equal for all are necessary.

The moderator was journalist and producer Hanan Nanić.

The opening of MICEB began with the playing of a composition by the band GuitarDUO Bulatović & Nikčević.

The second international conference on economics and business is organized by the Faculty of Economics of the University of Montenegro from May 29 to 31, 2025 in Budva.
